ASICS Invitational
October 13th, 2012

The top 14 runners on each squad traveled to Whitesburg, GA to participate in the Asics Invitational, a large meet with over 80 schools from all over the state. The girls varsity squad showed they stack up with the best in the state with a 6th place finish in the Girls Championship Division. Alex Cameron finished 5th overall. Jennifer Hardister had a great race and was the 5th finisher on team, leading the Wildcats to their great result.

The boys varsity squad finished 8th out of 35 teams in the 5A-6A Varsity race, and were led by a top 10 finish from Blake Tiede, who was the first 10th grade finisher in the race. Connor McKnight, Adam Christopher, and Cadmiel Velazquez also had great races for the Wildcats.

In the Boys JV Championship race, the Wildcats finished 16th out of 34 teams, and were led by great performances from Jack Martin and Owen Firebaugh. That set the stage for a great performance by Girls JV Championship team, who finished 2nd out of 27 teams, earning them a (very heavy) trophy. The Wildcats were led by top 20 performances from Callie Dill and Katherine Gephardt, who were followed closely behind by teammates Ellie Conoley, Elizabeth Hardister, Shanel Stewart, and Emily Cyr. The future looks bright for the Wildcats!

Dekalb County Championships
October 9, 2012

The Varsity teams participated in the DeKalb County Varsity Cross Country Championships on Tuesday, October 9th at Druid Hills MS. The girls won their 3rd County Championship in the last 4 years, avenging last year's loss to Lakeside. Leading the pack was Alex Cameron, who won her 3rd straight individual championship at the County Meet. She was followed close behind by Kailey Williams, Ansley Heavern, and Ann-Marie Sills, and the 5-6-7 runners of Erin Berger, Jennifer Hardister, and Kenzie Johnson turned out to be the difference for the Wildcats.

The boys team fought hard in a very competitive race to finish in a solid 4th place. The boys were led by top 11 performances from Connor McKnight, Adam Christopher, and Blake Tiede.  This gives the boys teams some great goals and possibilities over the last month of the season.

Dekalb County JV Championships
October 4th, 2012

The Wildcats had a great day at the DeKalb County Junior Varsity Championship this past Thursday at Druid Hills Middle School. The girls JV team are your County Champions and the boys team are the County 2nd Place Finishers! On the girls side, congratulations go out to Callie Dill for her 1st place individual finish, continuing a tradition of girls who have won this race in the past for Dunwoody (we have had 5 of the last 6 individual champions on the girls side!). She was followed close behind by Ellie Conoley, Shanel Stewart, Sydney Drew, Alexandra Womble, Ellie Canalichio, and Emily Cyr. All of them moved up during the race to defeat Lakeside by a mere 3 points. Great job girls! The Boys JV team also did not disappoint, with a 2nd place team finish and some great performances. The boys were led by Cadmiel Velazquez and his 3rd place finish, and he was joined by teammates Jack Martin, Max Noto, Nathan Bryant, Benson Ross, Jerett Lupoli, and Will Bass.

Marist Double Dip
Saturday, September 15, 2012

The Wildcats participated in the Double Dip Invitational at Marist and had some great results! The girls Varsity and Junior Varsity squads both finished 3rd and earned a trophy for their efforts. The Varsity girls were led by a great 3rd place finish from Kailey Williams, as well as a great race by Erin Berger. The Junior Varsity girls were led by strong performances from Kenzie Johnson, Ellie Conoley, and Shanel Stewart.

The boys team also had a great day, defeating several of their DeKalb County foes to finish 8th as a team in the Varsity race and 7th as a team in the JV race. The varsity squad was bolstered by a strong performance from Connor McKnight, while the JV race had some great performances by Cadmiel Velazquez and Nathan Bryant.

Despite some warming conditions, the Open Races still produced some excellent efforts and times. The girls open race was fronted by a trio of 8th graders, including Callie Dill who was the winner of the Open Race, and was followed by Alexandra Womble and Ellie Canalichio. The boys Open Race saw great and gutsy efforts from Benson Ross, Jackson Watson, and John Riordan.

Clara Bowl Invitational - Berry College
Saturday, September 8th, 2012

The Dunwoody Varsity runners returned again this year to Berry College for the Clara Bowl Invitational. The sky was overcast but the temperature was in the low 80's and the humidity was about 95%. The conditions took a toll on many runners throughout the day. The medical staff at Berry was busy with many runners suffering and the spectators saw several runners collapse on the course. The Dunwoody boys were led by Blake Tiede (51st place) and the top five Dunwoody boys all finished within 2 minutes of one another. Given the steep level of competition, the 24th place out of 37 teams was a very good showing for the boys. The other top five finishers were Brendon Sexton (132nd), Noah Goldstein (146th), Tyler Lu (157th) and Cadmiel Velazquez (184th). The Dunwoody Girls finished in an amazing 3rd place behind 6A powerhouses Walton and just 11 points behind Harrison. The Dunwoody girls put 3 girls on the podium; Alex Cameron (4th), Kailey Williams (10th) and Ansely Heavern (16th). Rounding out the top 5 for Dunwoody were Jennifer Hardister (52nd) and Ann-Marie Sills (74th). The 3rd place out of 33 teams was the best the Dunwoody girls have done in many a year. Great job to all Dunwoody runners who endured the tough conditions. Up next: Tuesday, County Meet at Druid Hills MS and Saturday, Double Dip at Marist.
